That was part of the brief, pinky swear! Well, not really. We were asked to help pave the “creative” way for the visuals of the FIBA 2022 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Australia. Having a macro perspective of the basketball and the beautiful native Australian imagery as starting points really took the project to new heights. We created several pieces featuring basketballs constructions/deconstrutions and iconic landmarks of the host cities.
Not all projects are about the end product, but rather the journey. The theme of having tiny balls producing other elements, from 2D textures that have the feel of a basketball “skin”, objetcs made of balls, and ultimately a basketball where each little “bump” is an actual ball. Matching perfectly with Australian art of colorful dots forming beautiful patterns.
There were very different creative paths we explored for this project. We tried completely different aesthetics and techniques. We played as much as we could to push the boundaries of the tools, trying random or seemingly nonsensical paths just to find new worlds of possibility. Here are some of these experimentations, each one adding value to the former, and bringing new possibilities to improve.
