Maxmat

Make it real

Making a better sequel than the Original

There was one unofficial brief besides the script and actual brief: to make an even better ad for Maxmat after the previous success. Expectations were through the roof after the last one and while this spot was a more mellow and less adventurous, it still needed to be head and shoulders above the previous one.

Quite the task! So we tapped into the colorful, dense and industrial world we had created previously to keep our universe visually coherent while going a different route with our small heroes.

This freed valuable time to create new hero elements and devote more production time to animating this new story.

Theatrical staging

Such as in Shakespearean Theatre with huge, complex back stages, we envisioned a central stage that rotates and shifts dramatically from area to area – gardening, tools, lighting – This allowed us to concentrate on telling a dynamic, funnier and visually rich story without breaking production and air time constraints.

Extra goodies

Additionally to the main ad, we were also asked to create small sponsor clips for the European Soccer Cup on which Maxmat was involved.

Cloth simulation

This involved making two variations to the main film packshot, creating animations related to soccer. We also added cloth simulated outfits and accessories, as well as a full stadium 😉
